Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has vowed to relocate government jobs to Derry.

Mr Durkan was speaking as he received the keys to Building 71 at Ebrington in the city’s Waterside which is to become the DOE’s new regional headquarters.

Twenty-five staff are due to move into the refurbished building in September next.

Mr Durkan said: “On taking up office I pledged to move jobs to the North West.

“I am now doing that with 25 staff moving to form a regional DOE HQ in Building 71 in Derry.

“Getting the keys to the building secures this. It is a real boost for Derry.”

Mel Higgins, Ilex chief executive, Mel Higgins – who handed the keys over to Mr. Durkan – said: “This demonstrates great confidence in our development plans and recognises the attractiveness of Ebrington in helping to bring jobs to the city.”
