Summer solstice celebrations in the North West will get underway with a dawn chorus, 800 feet above sea-level, at the iconic Grianán Áiligh on Saturday, 21 June next.
Co-organiser Mary McCallion said: “The Féile Grianán Áiligh committee is inviting early birds throughout Derry and Donegal to gather at the fort at 3.00am to take part in what promises to be a truly magical event.
“Our dawn chorus will be led by the fantastic Cór an Ghrianán, under the musical direction of Fahan’s Mura Canning.
“We will also have traditional musicians there to greet the dawn on the longest day of the year.
“Bearing in mind the earliness of the hour, Féile Grianán Áiligh is also providing park and ride facilities.
“For a nominal two euro, real live tweeters can leave their cars in our supervised car park and take a shuttle bus up to the fort,” she smiled.
Mary added that Féile Grianán Áiligh was hoping to build on the success of last year’s Dawn Chorus and establish a permanent, annual event.
