patrickmellonTools and machinery stolen from Derry City Cemetery last weekend have been returned.

The equipment was taken from work huts and stores at the cemetery some time between 4.00pm on Saturday and 8.00am on Monday.

Patrick Mellon, Independent candidate in the upcoming local government election, has welcomed the return of the equipment.

He said: “Members of the Creggan Community Collective were delighted to be able to return these items to the staff in time for Cemetery Sunday.

“As an Independent candidate for the Moor Ward, I utterly condemn these thefts and welcome the return of the items.”

He added: “I actively encourage anyone involved in this type of activity to desist immediately for the benefit of the community.”
