Youngsters from City of Derry have taken part in the Maxol Mini Rugby Festival, hosted by Letterkenny Rugby Club.

Players of various ages under-12 from neighbouring clubs also travelled to Donegal club’s rugby grounds to enjoy a series of matches and meet Ulster rugby players Declan Fitzpatrick and Chris Farrell who attended the tournament.

The festivals are run in a pool (group) format and teams play against other in their pool.

Each half lasts six minutes and each Maxol Mini Rugby Festival adopts all IRFU (Irish Rugby Foobtall Union) regulations pertaining to under-8s, under-10s and under-12 rugby.

Mini rugby is the introductory level of the sport throughout Ulster in which boys and girls aged six-12 gain their first taste of the sport and begin to learn the basic skills.

You can find out more about the Ulster Mini Rugby Programme by visiting www.ulsterrugby.com or visit www.maxol.com.

Leading forecourt convenience retailer Maxol is the official sponsor of Ulster Mini Rugby.

The two year sponsorship deal until 2015 includes 32 Mini Rugby Festivals which will involve more than 4,000 children from over 44 local rugby clubs and 200 rugby-playing primary schools across the nine counties of Ulster.

Speaking following the Letterkenny Maxol Mini Rugby Festival,  Brian Donaldson, chief operating officer of The Maxol Group, said they were delighted so many young rugby players took part in the event.

He added: “Our sponsorship with Ulster Mini Rugby really demonstrates our commitment to grassroots rugby and helps us deliver on our brand position to be ‘at the heart of it’ across all of the local communities in Ulster.”
