brandywellcivicDerry City Council is to extend the  opening times of seven civic amenities sites from Monday next.

Household civic recycling centres provide the residents of the city the opportunity to recycle or dispose of larger household items and with additional days including Sunday openings for a number of the sites, the summer schedule offers additional times to dispose of unwanted waste.

Sean McFadden, from Derry City Council Waste Management, said the extended hours would allow residents  more time to visit the sites to ensure that residential waste was disposed of correctly.

He said it was vital residents visit the site to recycle items which do not fit in the blue bins.

He added: “Items such as paint, electrical goods, textiles, scrap metal and bulky waste can be left at these sites, free of charge for recycling to ensure a better environment for us all by saving energy, reducing pollution and helping conserve natural resources for our future generations.”
