“PURE LUCK” ACCIDENTS AVOIDED AFTER CARS PELTED BY SNOWBALLS

Parents in the Kilfennan area of the Waterside have been called on to “remind” their children of the dangers of throwing snowballs at moving cars following two incidents which could have ended in tragedy.Snowball fights fun in Richmond Park as the cold weather takes grip in London

The call comes from David Malcolm, Foyle UKIP (United Kingdom Independence Party) Waterside representative, who said it was “pure luck” no one was injured in two snowballing incidents.

In one incident, a woman nearly crashed at the front of Lincoln Courts after her car was pelted by up to eight snowballs in quick succession while an elderly driver had to take evasive action on Kilfennan Hill when his car was hit over 10 times.

Mr Malcolm said: “He instinctively braked and his wheels locked, sending him skidding towards the opposite side of the road, luckily his vehicle was the only one on that stretch of road and he was able to correct his slide.”

Mr Malcolm said he had received numerous calls from drivers in the Waterside who had been “startled” by groups of young people throwing snowballs at their cars whilst they were trying to concentrate on driving in the inclement weather.

He added: “No one wants to spoil kids’ fun but we would appreciate parents reminding their children of the dangers of throwing snowballs at moving vehicles. It is pure luck that there were no injuries caused by these incidents.”
