Residents living adjacent to John Ugg Clifford Park (Bull Park) in Derry have appealed for a gate to erected on the laneway behind their homes in an attempt to reduce late-night anti-social behaviour in the area.
Homeowners in Westland Avenue and Laburnum Terrace are frustrated by night-time anti-community behaviour, such as noise , setting bins on fire and the illegal dumping of rubbish.
A petition of residents is to be taken up and presented to agencies “with expertise” to have gates erected in an attempt to eradicate the problems.
Sinn Fein Cllr Colly Kelly said residents feel the erection of a gate was way to resolve the issue.
Cllr Kelly said: “When we were going around the doors and speaking to residents directly it was very apparent the impact all the carry-on in the laneway behind their homes particularly at night time and at the weekends was having on them.
“The residents most directly affected feel the best to resolve many of these issues is the installation of a gate.”
Cllr Kelly said Sinn Fein would be “collating” a petition from local residents for some form of gate to be erected and when finalised, it would then be taken to the “various agencies who have expertise” on this issue and start the process. This can be a long process but I will keep residents up to date as this proceeds.
