An investigation is under way after the death of an elderly woman at one of the North West’s best known hotels.
Una Quinn, from Melmount Gardens in Strabane, died in the swimming pool area at Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey yesterday.
Staff and onlookers went to her aid but she was later pronounced dead at the scene despite their valiant efforts.
A post mortem is being carried out to establish the cause of death.
Gardaí are carrying out an investigation as part of normal procedures for the county coroner but the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Originally from Galway she was well-known and well respected in the town where she had worked for many years as a teacher at the now demolished Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School.
One former pupil taught by the 79-year-old said: “She was a very loving, gentle and kind lady. She would have been well known and liked in the town.”
Mrs Quinn was predeceased by her husband Pat in December 2012 and is survived by sons Kevin, Brendan, Aidan, Fergal and daughter Rita.
