Ivy Terrace in Derry has been assessed as an area suitable for an urgent street lighting upgrade, according to a local councillor.light

Sinn Fein Cllr Patricia Logue said the next stage would be consultation with local residents to how this best can be achieved.

Cllr Logue said: “Back in December, I was contacted by a number of residents living in Ivy Terrace who had expressed concerns that the street lighting there is in need of an urgent overhaul and upgrade.

“As local councillor for the area I said I would do all that I can to try and get this situation rectified. I wrote to the Road Service in regards to this matter asking that they assess the area with the view of carrying out the necessary upgrade as soon as possible.

Residents have concerns about the darkness of the street at night time, about security around their homes and for people walking in the area late at night.”

“It’s also a very narrow street and there are safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians coming in and out of the street.”

DRD Road Service has now come back to Cllr Logue to say they have assessed the area and have agreed that it was need of an upgrade.

Cllr Logue added: “The next stage will be a consultation with local residents to see how best this can be achieved.”
