A 23-year-old Derry man charged in connection with a motorbike hit-and-run incident in the city in which a seven-year-old girl was seriously injured was released on bail when he appeared at the local Magistrates Court this morning.L

David Gerard McCloskey, of Creggan Heights, is charged with causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop or remain at the scene of the accident and failing to report it.

He is further charged with having no insurance, no driving licence, failing to wear protective headgear and carrying an unauthorised pillion passenger.

The charges relate to the alleged incident which occurred on 7 June last year at Creggan Heights.

McCloskey, who has been in custody since June, was granted bail with strict conditions when he appeared at the Derry Court via video link from Magheraberry Prison.

After being informed McCloskey was agreeable to reside at an address in the Waterside area of the city, Resident Magistrate ordered to stay away from the cityside other than for court appearances.

The accused was also ordered not to drive or be carried in any time of motor vehicle.

Mr McElholm added any breach in any of the conditions would lead to McCloskey being returned straight into custody.
