The positivity of 2013 must be turned into “real delivery” for the people of Derry in 2014 and beyond, a candidate in the upcoming local government election has said.
SDLP representative Emmet Doyle, who is seeking election in the Moor ward, said the legacy of 2013 must be one of “solid foundations” for the city’s young people and communities.
Mr Doyle said: “We have never before seen the positivity both in our city and towards it like we have in 2013.
“The success of the Fleadh and other events have put Derry on the map and we now have the huge task of ensuring that all we have seen this year both in terms of the transformation of the city and the hopes and dreams of our young people for their future, are realised fully in 2014.
“The legacy of 2013 must be one of solid foundations in our young people and in our communities.
“As an SDLP candidate for the new ‘super council,’ I will be doing all I can to ensure that local talent and local communities see real and lasting benefits from this year.
“I want to herald in 2014 as a year of steadfast dedication to harnessing the aspirations of young and old for our city, and going to work on making our city a better place to live, work and visit.”
Mr Doyle concluded: “I want to wish everyone a peaceful and prosperous New Year and pledge myself to listening to our communities as we continue to put Derry on the map.”
