Minister for Social Development Nelson McCausland has announced funding of £17,400 for new accommodation for the Dunluce Family Centre in Ballymagroarty in Derry.

The funding will establish new premises for the Centre through the design of refurbishment and extension works, to the presently vacant building situated at Shaws Court in the Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal area.

Mr McCausland said the new premises would assist in addressing the severe lack of facilities and building space in order to deliver much needed family support services to the residents in the area.

The Minister added: “Projects like this make an important difference, transforming the lives of local communities that have suffered from years of social deprivation. Only through investing time and money in these areas can we ensure that everyone, regardless of background, is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

“Over the last nine years the North West Development Office (NWDO) has given financial support to the Dunluce Family Centre to deliver their Family Interventions and Lifestart programmes. To date the Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership has benefited from over £8million of Neighbourhood Renewal funding.”

Welcoming the funding, the Dunluce Family Centre chairperson Laura Radcliffe said: “Dunluce Family Centre is delighted with this announcement of additional funding which will allow the organisation to expand from the current NI Housing Executive accommodation to a much larger accommodation and will assist in expansion of service delivery in the form of Family Support Services to all the residents from this Neighbourhood Renewal Area.”
