The incident happened in the Ballyholey area of Raphoe in Co. Donegal shortly after 6.30pm last night.

Minutes earlier, the two men were in a blue Northern registered Volvo car that was in collision with another vehicle travelling in the same direction on the main Lifford to Letterkenny road.

The two men ran off to a nearby house where they threatened the woman with a knife before stealing her car, a black Opel Corsa with a registation number  05-DL-5891 and driving off in the direction of Letterkenny.

The car later crossed the border at Bridgend on the Derry to Buncrana Road shortly before 10.00pm.

The woman and a man driving the vehicle involved in the collision have been left badly shaken by the incident.

Police in Derry are assisting Gardai in the search for the two men.
