A new £3.2 million extension to the North West Independent Hospital in Ballykelly bas been officially opened.
The expansion includes a new operating theatre, recovery suite and a new day procedure unit.
The new theatre has a Laminar Flow ventilation system which provides patients with additional protection from life-threatening infections and is specifically designed for orthopaedic surgery.
It brings to three the number of state-of-the-art operating theatres that can cater for a full range of surgery procedures.
The six-bed recovery suite and the 12-bed day procedure unit bring the total number of beds in the privately-run hospital to 54.
The hospital, which opened in 1989 employes 180 staff and is operated by the North West Healthcare Group which comprises of North West Independent Hospital, North West Care and North West Recruitment, employing a total of 500 people.
The group’s clients include the Northern, Western and Belfast health and social care trusts.
