North West Senior Cup Final – Newbuildings United 2  Institute 2

(after extra time) Newbuildings win 5-3 on penaltiesNewbuildings-Utd

Newbuildings United came from two goals down to beat Institute in a penalty shoot-out to win the North West Senior Cup at the Riverside Stadium in Drumahoe last night.

Goals from  Aaron Walsh and Matthew Crossan put the Irish League Division One side two up after 30 minutes.

But Newbuildings were level within five minutes with  goals from Stephen Curry and Lee Dougherty.

Institute emerged for the second half with only ten men as a result of Aaron Walsh being taken from the dressing room and shown a straight red card by referee David Walker following  altercation as both teams left the field at the end of the first half.

Both sides had chances to win the game in the second half and with very little created in extra time, Newbuildings claimed victory in the penalty shoot out when Gregory McIvor slotted home after Institute’s Matthew Crossan blasted his spot kick over the bar.
