Derry-born designer Emma-Kate Cummings has been enjoying huge success in the fashion world since she graduated from the London College of Fashion. She is continuing to grow her business as a Creative Tailor and is delighted to be returning to her home town to be part of this unique showcasing event.

A series of Shapeshifters Workshops under the creative directorship of local style guru Joe Carlin have been organised in the run up to the event in an effort to encourage people from the city and region to design their own costume and really get into the creative flair of creating an amazing outfit fit for the catwalk.

The workshops are scheduled to take place this Friday between 4.00pm and 8.00pm; Saturday  between 10.00am and 4.0pm and on Friday next, 25 October, between 4.00pm and 8.00pm at the Craft Cottage in the Craft Village.

The attendance by Emma-Kate Cummings as a guest judge is seen as a major coup for Derry City Council who are organising the event as part of the city’s Halloween celebrations.

She said she was delighted to be part of the Catwalk event and the chance to return to her home town.

She added: “Although I am now working and living in London, Derry will always be home for me. There is great character to be found in every corner of the city and I’m really excited about the creative buzz that has been happening in recent years.”

Terence O’Kane, events organiser for Derry City Council, said the Shapeshifters Catwalk has been a huge success in encouraging fashion students and design enthusiasts to showcase their talents.

He added: “What is great about the Shapeshifters Catwalk is the fact that free workshops are being held in the run to the event where people can learn some great skills in putting a design creation together with the help of some local experts.

“In addition to the Shapeshifters Catwalk we are hosting a Shapeshifters Ball at the Guildhall on Halloween night, 31 October, and provide another opportunity to showcase the variety of creative costumes and design creations,” he said.

Those looking for more information on the shapeshifters workshops and catwalk event are asked to contact Joe directly at [email protected], while tickets for the Shapeshifters Ball are priced £20 and are available through the Guildhall telephone (028) 7136 5151, extension 8301. Doors open at 9.00pm and close at .00am. Admission for over-18s only.
