SINN Fein Féin TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has called for an Taoiseach to stand up for an independent inquiry on collusion between loyalist paramilitaries and British security forces.
It follows last night’s 90 minute documentary on RTE called ‘Collusion’.
The programme British State collusion in multiple atrocities and murders going right back to the early 1970s.
Deputy Ó Caoláin said: “The recent disclosures and television programmes shows the pervasiveness of collusion, a practice of the British government and security forces, the consequences of which are felt by families and survivors across Ireland today.
“Collusion is not an allegation that can be dismissed as propaganda. It is a fact of the conflict.
“It was committed on a large scale and with impunity. There is clear evidence that points to collusion being not only practice but policy; it was planned and directed with full political authority.
“This is no more evident than in the Dublin/Monaghan bombings which claimed the lives of 33 people and injured over 200.
“The Judge Baron Inquiry found clear evidence of collusion between loyalists and British military personnel.
“The British government refused to cooperate with this inquiry.
“The Taoiseach has failed to uphold the rights of families of Irish citizens killed and injured through collusion.
“He has failed to hold the British government to account for their refusal to fully cooperate with the inquiry into Dublin/Monaghan.
“He has allowed the British government to walk away from their commitment into a public inquiry into the death of Pat Finucane.
“The Irish government are not minor players in the peace process they are coequal guarantors and partners in the process.
“The Irish government must not let the British government walk away from their role and responsibility in the conflict.
“They must secure the right to truth for all citizens and ensure the mechanisms agreed as part of the Stormont House Agreement are implemented.”
