SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan

THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed the commencement of the demolition of the Meenan Square complex.

Said the Foyle MLA: “This is a major step in the regeneration of the Bogside and, indeed, the wider city.

“For years, I wave worked with others to progress the development of this site that has been an eyesore and headache for local residents.

“The project will include housing, commercial and community facilities.

“It has taken a long time to get here and thanks must go to Urban Villages and Apex for their investment in the area, to the community for pushing for these improvements and to the site owners who have been flexible and willing to make this happen.

“There is still plenty of work to do though and we remain focussed on ensuring a final product that not only enhances the Bogside aesthetically but also creates economic and social opportunities for people living in the area.”
