SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood has described the discovery of a number of dangerous objects linked to dissident republicans in Derry as “deeply disturbing”.
A large scale police search and clearance operation started on Friday when one dangerous item was found in fields in the Ballmagroarty area of the city.
The operation is continuing on Saturday where a further dangerous item has been recovered.
Both have been removed for extensive forensic examination.
Said the Foyle MP: “The discovery of what has been described by police as ‘dangerous objects’ in searches linked to dissident republican activity is deeply disturbing.
“How many times do the people of Derry have to reject those intent on causing murder and mayhem on our streets before they get the message?
“The use of violence in the pursuit of political goals is not only immoral, it is a failed strategy.
“Those who continue to engage in violence have nothing to offer the people of this city or this island.”
