REPAIR work has taken place on Derry’s Riverside walkway, after complaints were made to Derry MLA Sinead McLaughlin on the poor and dangerous condition of the path.
A site visit took place on Friday 28 February 2020 at the Riverside Walkway following a request from Sinead McLaughlin MLA.
Remedial repairs to the paving along the walkway between the Council Offices and Sainsbury’s were undertaken on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, by the Department of Communities’ North West Development Office.
Flooding created by a metal conduit was referred to the council as the conduit was installed as part of the expansion of the City’s CCTV network.
An engineer attended on Monday, March 2, to raise the trunking within a specific section and to walk the rest of the walkway to unblock and remove any debris from under the conduit which is creating pooling of water.
Said Sinead McLaughlin: “This path had fallen into disrepair and parts of it had become dangerous.
“I appreciate the prompt action and repair work taken by the department and the council following my complaint.
“The matter was raised with me by constituents.
“Part of the role of an MLA is to resolve this type of problem and I am pleased that constituents raised this with me.
“This should be an exceptionally beautiful part of the city to walk along in spring and summer and hopefully the improved condition of the path will encourage more people do so in safety.”
