The Channel 4 favourite is up against two Netflix heavy hitters – `Sex Education’ and the Ricky Gervais vehicle `After Life’ – and Spanish period comedy-drama
`Arde Madrid’ among others in the category.
The shortlist was voted for by 60 international judges made up of media industry professionals, chaired by `The Bridge’ star Sofia Helin, who described it as “brilliantly diverse”.
Winners will be announced at the 58th gala awards in London on Sunday, December 1, hosted by Sir Lenny Henry.
Previously The Crown, Gogglebox and The Graham Norton Show have all taken home awards.
Channel 4 has commissioned a third series of ‘Derry Girls’ which is due to start filming in 2020.
