SINN Féin’s Karen Mullan has called for the derelict Meenan Square complex which has been the site of much anti-community activity to be cleaned up and secured as soon as possible.

The Foyle MLA said: “Councillor Patricia Logue and I are calling for Meenan Square site to be cleaned up and secured as soon as possible.

“We will be meeting with all stakeholders to move the project along, funding is in place for this site and is an Urban Villages Key Project and we request that all efforts are put in place to move this forward.

“We are also calling on the owner of the site to step up to his responsibility and work closely with the community.

“The well publicized issues with this site have have been ongoing now for a number of years, the local community cannot go through another of summer this.

“It needs resolved once and for all.

“I believe we need to work collectively to address this and breathe new life into the area.

“This site was once the vibrant heartbeat of the Bogside with many local businesses and services.

“It has the potential to become the catalyst for change in this community and bring employment opportunities,” she added.
