SINN Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald said Brexit will threaten all Island co-operation for health services.
She was speaking after attending the All Island Civic Dialogue ‘Brexit – implications for cross-border health co-operation’ at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dundalk
The East Derry MLA: “The Tory Brexit agenda threatens future North-South health co-operation and will have devastating consequences for health services and patients, North and South.
“Services like the North West Cancer Care Centre at Altnagelvin Hospital, which caters for cancer patients from both sides of the Border are an example of how all-Ireland co-operation benefit patients.
“The direction of travel for our health service for quite some time has been towards shared services across the island and this had led to improved outcomes.
“The continued development of an all-Ireland health care system makes sense.
“Shared services on all-island basis, shared staff and common standards make clinical as well as financial sense.
“The only way that North-South health co-operation is protected is by ensuring Special Status for the North within the EU.”
