SINN Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has welcomed the news that road safety measures are to be installed outside two busy Derry primary schools.
New safety railings are to be installed outside St John’s Primary on Bligh’s Lane and new road safety markings are to be installed on the roadway outside Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir in the Brandywell.
She said: “Anyone who is in and around Bligh’s Lane on any week day will tell you how busy it is particularly at peak times of the day.
“You have hundreds of children attending St Johns Primary, the adjacent St Cecilia’s College and the nursery school.
“I met with the Principal to discuss the issue and see what could be done.
“It was apparent there needed to be a couple of additional safety measures in and around St Johns to prevent any accidents taking place there.
“Transport NI have now agreed to install new railings at the school and paint the road safety markings in the area.
“I am also pleased to have received confirmation this week from Transport NI that new road safety markings are to installed outside Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir in the vicinity of Deanery Street/Donegal Place.
“I would like to thank Transport NI ,the school Principal and Community Restorative Justice(CRJ) who I have been working with for many months and had a number of onsite meetings to ensure there was a positive outcome,” added Cllr Logue
