THIS year’s Culture Night is themed the “Year of the Sword” to coincide with the handing over of the state sword to the City in 1616.
With this in mind the Tower Museum is celebrating with a medieval themed evening of workshops, treasure hunt, puzzles, sand castle building and more next Friday, September 16.
Betty Doherty, Museum Services at Derry City and Strabane District Council said: ‘There will be lots of activities and fun on the evening to suit all ages.
“At the workshops in the museum’s Education and Learning Space you can create your own sword, crown, helmet, shield and costume at the round table in the Knights’ Tent.
‘There will be plenty of action too, including a treasure hunt through the Discovery Zone where you will face dangers lurking around every corner.
“You may have to fight the evil knight and solve the old gatekeeper’s riddles before claiming a prize and a Knight/Lady title!
“With weather permitting, you can bring your steeds and swords to compete in a jousting competition on top of the tower.
“This coincides with the rededication of the state sword, currently housed in the Tower Museum, later that evening at St. Columb’s Cathedral organised in partnership with the Friends of the Derry Walls.’’
Medieval Night at the Tower Museum will take place on Culture Night, Friday 16th September 2016 between 5.00pm until 10.00pm.
