If you were born on or before 5 January 1952 you could be entitled to get help heating your home.watch-thermostat-tip-2-lg

The Winter Fuel Payment helps older people across Northern Ireland with their heating costs. You don’t need to be claiming benefits to qualify for this extra money. If you have not received Winter Fuel Payment before, you should find out if you’re eligible.

You may qualify automatically for the £200-per-household payment, which could rise to £300 if you are over 80 years old, if:

you were receiving a State Pension or certain other social security benefits during the week of 16 to 22 September 2013, or

you got a payment last year and your circumstances haven’t changed

However, you might not realise you’re eligible, perhaps because you’re still working. To find out, you should contact the Winter Fuel Payment helpline on 0845 915 1515 or textphone: 0845 601 5613.

The helpline is open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Claims must be received by 31 March next year.
