THE Western Trust Health Improvement Department’s Community Food and Nutrition Team is supporting Childminder’s Week from 24 to 28 September by holding a number of nutrition workshops during September 2018.
Zoe Fletcher, Western Trust Health Improvement Dietitian – Project Lead Community Food and Nutrition Team explains the benefits for childminders to attend one of the nutrition workshops: “Good nutrition is essential during childhood as it is a time of rapid growth and development.
“It is important that we help children to form healthy eating habits and patterns from an early age to help prevent against obesity and obesity related diseases later in life.
Zoe added: “During Childminder’s Week, the Community Food and Nutrition will be running fun and interactive nutrition workshops for all childminders in the Western Trust area to help promote and encourage good nutrition in their childcare settings.
“These workshops have been designed to help childminders grow in confidence with the knowledge that they are providing the best nutrition for the children in their settings.”
Workshops will be running on 27 September 2018 from 7pm to 9pm in Trust Headquarters, MDEC Building, Altnagelvin Hospital site, Derry covering nutrition guidelines and portion sizes for weaning and 1-5 year olds, sugar and dental health along with healthy snack and meal planning ideas that childminders can take away and use in their own settings.
