‘Bringing Music to Life’ is a funded project supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council’s ‘Access and Inclusion’ project and the Public Health Agency.
During the evening concert Strabane Brass Band, the Brass Works and pupils from Knockavoe School will play an array of beautiful ensembles – as part of the Tada Festival. Other highlights of the evening will include ‘The Musical Pathways’, ‘Play Percussion’ and ‘Frienteenz’.
Tommy Barr from Strabane Brass Band commented: “We are very excited to be bringing this fantastic collaboration to the Alley Theatre.
“Strabane Junior Brass Band ‘The Brass Works’ was conceived originally as a final year project by Amanda McGinley as part of her studies towards a Batchelor of Music degree – and due to its success has been adopted by Strabane Brass Band as a means of training and eventually introducing brass players into the senior band. Everyone has worked so hard over the past number of months on this specific project involving Knockavoe School.
“We have had a lot of fun along the way. Our first rehearsal was back in October 2017 and since then the project has allowed 10 children to learn new instruments and has given them a new skill for life. It is a joy to see how their confidence has increased in so many ways.
“This will be a fabulous concert with a showcase of local talent and some great music making!’
This is the second year of the Tada Festival which promotes accessible and inclusive arts and cultural activity from and by people from the pan disability community within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
With a full day’s programme on Thursday 7th June in the Alley Theatre the festival aims to nurture active and inclusive community participation, bringing people together in a shared civic celebration.
Jacqueline Doherty Venue Manager at the Alley Theatre added: “We are delighted that the Tada Festival will be at the Alley Theatre.
“We have a full day’s programming planned with Replay Theatre Company performing three shows earlier in the day with ‘Snoozle and The Lullabugs’ – a rockabilly – rockabye show for under 5’s with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
“This is then followed of course by the wonderful Strabane Brass Band, Knockavoe School and the Brass Works which will be ‘Bringing Music to Life’ in the evening.
“I cannot wait to see the outcome of all their hard work live on stage. As an accessible venue we pride ourselves on being inclusive for all and have a number of initiatives running including ‘The Access for All Scheme’ and we are now a ‘Jam’ friendly venue providing excellent customer service to people with learning difficulties and communication barriers.
“Indeed, if anyone would like further information on any of these schemes please contact our box office or visit our website”.
Tickets for ‘Bringing Music to Life’ on Thursday 7th June at 7:30pm are £5, £3 (con) available from the Alley Theatre Box Office on 02871 384444 or online www.alley-theatre.com
