Mr Durkan said: “The publication of this report today will compound the concerns of patients who are suffering following mesh surgery here in Northern Ireland.
“This is the latest scandal in a long list of controversies surrounding mesh surgery here.
“Despite huge efforts by patients and a local campaign to end the suffering patients are living with here, the Department of Health has done little but stick it’s head in the sand.
“While I’ve been working to advocate for those affected the absence of a Minister, means that concerns are falling on deaf ears – and these patients are living with daily pain – the situation is contemptable. It cannot be allowed to continue.
“I have written to the Head of the Civil Service and the Permanent Secretary for the Department of Health to demand that a full investigation take place immediately. Patients deserve answers and action.”
