POLICE have charged a 23 year old man after a number of homes were broken into in Derry yesterday.
He has been charged with burglary, interference with vehicles and possession of a class C controlled drug.
He is due to appear at Derry Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Wednesday, August 9 for a first remand hearing.
As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
The charges are in relation to the burglaries of a number of properties in the Derry area yesterday, Monday 7 August
The 23-year-old was later arrested by the Reducing Offending Unit at Strand Road.
A PSNI spokesperson said that sometime between 4 pm and 9 pm, entry was gained to a house in the Skeoge Road area, through an unlocked door, and a tablet device taken on Monday, August 7.
“Later, at around 11 pm, a house at Gleneagles was also entered through an unlocked door, and a mobile phone stolen.
“A further burglary at a house in Fern Park sometime on Monday, was reported to police today.
“Police were called to the report of a male trying door handles of cars in the Gleneagles area shortly after 11pm on Monday evening and arrested a man a short time later.
“Officers have recovered property belonging to victims of the earlier burglaries from this individual.
“Anyone who has lost property is asked to contact Strand Road police station.”
