POLICE WARNING OVER DANGERS OF SWIMMING IN ABANDONED QUARRIES
THE police in Co Derry are warning the public to be aware of the dangers of swimming in abandoned quarries.
A spokesman for PSNI Magherafelt said: “We’ve been getting reports of people swimming in some local abandoned quarries.
“While these quarries can be picturesque and (apparently) somewhat appealing on a warm summer day, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE WATER!
“It doesn’t matter how good a swimmer you are or, whether you’ve done it before or not, it is DANGEROUS!
“It can take just a split second to get into trouble.
“There could be submerged machinery, plantlife you could become entangled in, pollutants or bacteria you could inhale or ingest – the list of risks to your life, your health and your general wellbeing goes on.
“Please everyone, when it comes to disused quarries – stay safe by staying out!”
