THE PSNI has been urge to step up patrols in Derry to combat crime.
It follows a recent spate of burglaries in the Woodbrook and Pinetrees area of the city.
Derry Daily reported earlier this week about a number of break-ins and warnings sounded to residents that burglars were on targeting homes.
Sinn Fein councillor Sandra Duffy has called on police to put more patrols out to catch and deter burglars.
She was speaking after the latest in a spate of burglaries which occurred in Woodbrook in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Cllr Duffy said: “The issue has been raised with the PSNI who are aware of the rise in criminal activity in the area.
“I have asked them to increase their patrols in the area and the local community safety team have delivered a leaflet advising residents of their personal security.
“A lot of these incidents are opportunistic with thieves checking for open doors, windows and cars that are unlocked.
“I would like to again appeal to residents to ensure that they secure their property when they are going out and at night, as these thieves will take any opportunity that presents itself.”
