THOUSANDS of workers across Derry will see their wages increase as the National Living Wage takes effect from today.
A 50 pence increase will bring the minimum hourly rate for the over-25s from £6.70 to £7.20.
The rise was announced in the British Chancellor’s summer budget last year.
By 2020, the New Living Wage will be £10 an hour.
Those to benefit from the rise work primarily in low-paid sectors, including hospitality and the residential and nursing care industry.
Also to benefit are shop workers and cleaners who also are paid the minimum wage by employers.
