SINN Féin Foyle MLA Maeve McLaughlin has welcomed Education Minister John O’Dowd’s call for the Education Authority to go back to the drawing board on its decision to reduce nursery provision for children with special educational needs.
She said: “The decision by the Education Authority to reduce the hours of nursery provision for children with special educational needs from 4.5 to 2.5 hours has caused a great deal of concern to some of the most vulnerable in our society.
“I was contacted by a number of parents who had been unnecessarily distressed by this decision.
“I welcome the call from Education Minister John O’Dowd for the Education Authority to go back to the drawing board and start again.
“It will now be up to the Education Authority to come up with new proposals and bring them to the education minister,” added the Foyle MLA
