EFFICIENT use of energy and resources can make a business more competitive.
That will be the message at a special event taking place on Thursday February 25 as part of Enterprise Week 2016.
Organised by Derry and Strabane District Council, technical experts from Invest Northern Ireland will be on hand to provide guidance on simple cost-cutting measures that could help businesses to reduce their energy costs and boost their efficiency.
During a special seminar experts will advise on a range of good practice ideas surrounding raw materials, water use, wastewater management, packaging eco-design, waste minimisation and supporting the circular economy – all designed to reduce your costs.
Commenting on the subject, Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI Director of Innovation and Technology Solutions, said:
“Spiralling energy costs and soaring resource prices are common issues raised when Northern Ireland businesses discuss the barriers they face to growth.
“Increasingly, greater numbers of firms are engaging with us to explore and implement measures which could help alleviate these pressures.
“Enterprise Week provides a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the measures which could help businesses in Derry and Strabane boost their competitive advantage and increase their productivity.”
The event follows on from Tuesday’s Energy Conference led by the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce focusing on the region’s energy infrastructure.
The conference aims to highlight the concerns of the business community over the impact of the energy market on local business success, with N. Ireland paying the second highest electricity rates in Europe.
Business Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Louise Breslin, said the advice available on Thursday would be invaluable for local businesses.
“We are delighted to welcome Invest NI’s Sustainable Development team to Enterprise Week.
“This is a great way for local companies to save money by making some minimal changes to improve their resource efficiency.”
This free event takes place on Thursday 25th Feb from 8.45am and will be of interest to SME’s as well as larger organisations.
The session will also include information on the Industrial Symbiosis Service available to assist businesses in the sharing of services and resources, as well as information on how to apply for a 0% interest free loan for energy saving equipment.
The Make Your Business More Competitive event is one of over 50 free workshops and events taking place over the course of Enterprise Week.
