THE Western Trust has held an event to launch the beginning of the Radiotherapy service participating in the CHKS Accreditation Programme.
The launch communicated key information to colleagues across the Trust and signified the importance of an accredited radiotherapy service and Quality Management System in order to deliver high quality patient care in radiotherapy.
It was hosted by Project Sponsor and Assistant Director of Cancer Services Fiona Beattie.
Fiona said; “This is a very exciting milestone for us as we make the transition from project to service delivery. Our aim is to provide our patients with services of the highest quality and safety.
“The team is looking forward to working closely with all of the departments across the Trust as we develop our quality standards. I am delighted that we are moving forward in partnership with CHKS who have a wealth of experience in developing standards of patient care. It is a privilege for me to take on the role of project sponsor.”
Jean Simpson, Professional Lead for Radiotherapy said; “Quality Assurance in Radiotherapy is broader than a restricted definition of technical maintenance and quality control of equipment.
“The quality project for the Radiotherapy department will involve a comprehensive approach to all activities in the new service, from the moment a patient enters the department until the moment they leave and into follow-up care.
“This comprehensive approach has been chosen because it will guarantee to patients and to the wider community that each individual will receive the best available care and treatment.”
The CHKS launch represented a huge milestone for the Radiotherapy Department and it was supported by a large attendance from colleagues across the Trust.
Project Manager and Senior Therapy Radiographer, Rebecca Durnin described how the process will work locally for the team with wider collaborative work with colleagues across the trust.
The CHKS accreditation programme will enable the new Radiotherapy Department to examine themselves critically against a nationally recognised framework of service standards and so highlight good practice, whilst setting an agenda for service development.
