DERRY teachers have taken part in rally in Derry’s Guildhall Square this afternoon in protest at Education Minister John O’Dowd’s proposed “Investing in Workforce” scheme.
The Sinn Fein Minister announced in December he would be spending £33m on the scheme.
This aims to replace older teaching staff with newly-qualified teachers and paying them less money.
O’Dowd wants around 500 teachers over the age of 55 to retire with early access to their full pension.
The protest took place while elected members of Derry City and Strabane District Council were attending their monthly meeting in the Guildhall.
