DERRY City and Strabane District Council is urging community groups, schools, youth groups, individuals and artists to be part of the 2016 Ubuntu Festival of World Traditions.
The festival, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday 19th March in the Craft Village from 12 noon to 5 pm, is a celebration of global cultures represented in the local community and has been a huge success over the past number of years.
Angela Askin, Good Relations officer with Derry City and Strabane District Council said ‘This festival is devoted to pursuing the ideals of a global community through active engagement with the diverse range of thoughts and cultural experiences which reflect our Diverse City and the values of all our people.
“Ubuntu is a South African word meaning that all our identities and humanity are interlinked and should be respected.’
Karan Leonard, Festival and Events Manager with Council, encouraging local groups and individuals to register to be part of the festival, said the Council is keen to get as many organisations involved in programming activities for the festival to include music and performance, arts and crafts, storytelling, exhibitions and much more.
“The Ubuntu Festival has been a phenomenal success over the past number of years and we are keen to extend the invitation across the Council area to get as many local artists and community organisations to participate in the festival.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for groups and individuals across the Council area to be part of this celebration of diversity and culture and to showcase their talents,” she said.
