THE Derry public is being kindly asked to give up a few hours this weekend and help in a fresh foot search for missing John Concannon.
John, aged 71, and from Altcar Drive in Galliagh, has been missing getting on the wrong bust on November 10.
He suffers from dementia.
In a message on Facebook, John’s family say: “We would be very grateful if people would be able to join in a new search for John on Sunday 27th December 1pm Ballyarnett Country Park.
“Anyone who still has high viz jackets please remember to bring them along.
“We have a few that we can lend out on the day if needed.
“Anyone bringing there dogs please remember to keep them on leads at all times as some of the areas we walk into have animals on their property.”
The PSNI announced earlier this week that they plan to carry out a fresh search for John.
Chief Inspector Alan Hutton said, Operations Manager for Derry City & Strabane District, said extensive searches have already taken place.
“Both the police service and our Gardaí counterparts have been working closely and have carried out searches on land and in local waterways.
“This has been a joint effort, and we are also are very appreciative of the contributions of a civilian community search team that has assisted.
“The information we have at this stage suggests a search area on and close to the border at Lenamore Road and across into Dundreen and Drumadooey.
“We will be renewing the searches and will be using specialist search facilities.
“In the meantime, our thoughts are with the Concannon family. They are going through a lot of uncertainty at a time of year when families like to be together.
“I want to thank everyone who has given information so far.
“I would encourage anyone who thinks they may have seen Mr Concannon, on either side of the border, to get in touch with their nearest police or Garda station.”
