WITH the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme approaching in 2016 the Good Relations Team in Derry City and Strabane District Council are delighted to offer local residents an opportunity to visit the Somme Heritage Centre in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday and to engage in conversations around remembrance.
The visit is planned for Monday, 19th October, from 9.00 am to 4.45 pm with buses leaving Derry City and Strabane District Council offices at Derry Road, Strabane and the Shared Futures Centre, Waterside in Derry-Londonderry.
The trip is free, and includes admission to the centre, and a light lunch.
Members of the public wishing to find out more about the local significance of World War 1 and issues around how it is remembered today are encouraged to register from 10.00 am on Monday, 05 October.

Applicants must be aged 16 or over.
Bookings are prioritised to those who live, work or volunteer in the local Council area.
A maximum of 3 places per community group initially (additional bookings can go on waiting list).
Registrations are on a first come first served basis.
There are 80 places available.
