DERRY City manager Peter Hutton is hoping his side can build this evening on their 3-0 win over Longford last week.
The Candystripes are away to Galway and last week’s win has boosted the team’s confidence going into the clash for survival.
Another win could push Derry away from the relegation zone.
The manager admitted that the victory had been not just vital but that “its amazing what a win can do, it has given everyone at the club a lift”.
With City now on 19 points, they must have an eye on 6th spot which is currently held by Longford on 22 points.
The bottom half of the table is very clustered with just seven points separating 6th and 11th place in the table.
Galway are in the same position as Derry and know a run of good results could boost their league position.
Hutton watched Galway defeat Dundalk to advance to the final of the EA Sports Cup and was impressed with their performance.
“They were very well organised, defensively sound and denied Dundalk space all around the park,” Hutton told the club’s website.
“When we played them last we were very poor and let ourselves down. However, it is a different group now and different dynamics”.
Pressed on the recent move to a 3-5-2 formation, Hutton confirmed that it played to strengths of some of the players.
“We tried it at Bohemians when we went behind early and the players seemed comfortable with it.
“It certainly helps us with creativity and in the final third of the pitch”.
Derry will be without Aaron Barry and Dean Jarvis both who missed training on Thursday with minor knocks.
Cillian Morrison is also out with a viral infection.
George Kelly could be fit after breaking his hand.
Aaron McEnuff and Ciaran O’Connor are available for selection after receiving international clearance.
