THE PSNI are warning business owners about a spate of thefts of lead from buildings in the city over the past week.
Lead is extensively used on roofs as a flexible joint between slates or tiles and brick walls and chimneys.
In some cases thieves have been climbing onto the roofs of unoccupied buildings to steal lead.
This can often lead to damage caused by the elements if a theft is not noticed quickly.
Other thefts have taken place from building sites.
“So, if you see someone on a roof or a building site, give police a call on 101,” said a police spokesperson.
