psni logoCity West police are advising people to be careful when dealing with unsolicited callers of any description particularly those asking for money.

“Always be satisfied as to the credibility of any caller prior to parting with cash even those claiming to represent charities or local good causes,” said the police in a statement.

“Legitimate charities will display their registration number and will not mind if they are asked to call back so that a check can be made with the relevant charity or organisation that they are who they say.

“Always check ID of any unknown caller irrespective of who they claim to represent. If in doubt do not let them in.

“You can check the identity of callers claiming to represent recognised organisations and businesses by contacting Quick Check on 0800 013 22 90. This service is free and operates 24 hours a day.

“If you suspect anyone to be a bogus caller please contact police on 101.”
