Derry athlete Keith Shiels ended a phenomenal 2013 on the road and cross country circuits with two podium finishes within a week.
The Foyle Valley athlete followed his runners-up spot in the Greencastle (Co Tyrone) five mile road race on St Stephen’s Day with a second place finish in the Lough 5 five mile race run yesterday at the Omagh venue.
In a race that featured almost 500 runners, the Creggan man put in another excellent performance to record a time of 26.05 in finishing runner up to Paddy Hamilton of Annadale Striders.
In the Greencastle race, Shiels finished runner-up out of over 800 competitors to follow winner Stephen Scullion home in a time of 26.10.
